Stonegate-Queensway is a quiet leafy pocket of west end Toronto that has young professionals choosing as an affordable option to some of the more expensive surrounding neighbourhoods.
The Stonegate-Queensway hood including the Humber Bay area sits east of Royal York south of Berry Rd. going east to the Humber River. The Toronto Real Estate Board has renamed the districts and also includes pricier neighbourhoods such as Thompson Orchard, Springbrook Gardens, Norseman Heights and Sunnylea within this named area.
At the turn of the century this area was known as a market garden community. Today it is popular with its abundance of parklands, trails, creeks and rivers that are easily accessible. It’s known for its tree-lined streets and generous yards, while still being only minutes from downtown Toronto. The shopping areas range from upscale Kingsway and trendy Bloor West Village, to shops, restaurants and cinemas along the Queensway.
The Stonegate-Queensway hood is also close to a number of subway stations including Islington, Royal York and Old Mill. The Mimico Go-Train station is just south of the Queensway off Royal York and takes approximately 15 minutes to arrive at Union Station. The Humber Loop is found just east of the Sobeys’s Plaza off the Queensway and runs along Queen Street. Working downtown Toronto is easy to access and many residents leave their cars behind and take public transit.
Another reason young professionals are choosing this area to live is the variety of well regarded schools offered from Norseman, Park Lawn, Sunnylea, Etobicoke School of the Arts, Karen Kain School of the Arts and Sainte-Margueritte-d'Youville.
The area housing stock is a mix of post-war bungalows, storey-and-a-half to 2 storeys with newly renovated and rebuilt properties becoming more popular especially since many of these lots are generous in size and offer great value. Newer townhouses and condos are also becoming more common within the area and are attractive for a turn-key lifestyle.
